Should you repair or replace your gutters?

A practical guide for homeowners comparing gutter repair, replacement, fascia issues, pitch problems, and drainage concerns.

Not every gutter problem means the whole system has to be replaced. Some issues can be repaired. Others keep coming back because the gutter is damaged, poorly pitched, undersized, or attached to failing fascia.

Repair may make sense when

  • One section is loose but the rest of the run is solid.
  • A downspout has been hit, disconnected, or needs a better outlet.
  • A small leak or corner issue can be corrected without replacing the full system.
  • The fascia is sound and the gutter is still in decent condition.

Replacement may make sense when

  • The gutter is badly bent, crushed, rusted through, or pulling away in multiple areas.
  • The system is pitched wrong across long runs.
  • Water regularly runs behind the gutter and has damaged fascia.
  • The roof area needs larger 6-inch gutters or larger downspouts.
  • Multiple repairs would cost too much compared to starting over cleanly.

Why an onsite look matters

Photos can help, but an onsite inspection gives a better answer. We look at roofline, fascia, water volume, gutter size, downspouts, pitch, and where the water is actually going.
